Police have arrested four people in connection with the investigation that began when human body parts were found near Southards Pond Park in Babylon Village.

Three Amityville residents, Amanda Wallace, 40, Jeffrey Mackey, 38 and Steven Brown, 44 along with one homeless man, Alexis Nieves, 33 are each charged with hindering prosecution and tampering with physical evidence according to online court records.

Two victims have been identified. One, 59 year old female and the other a 53 year old male. Police are withholding their names at this time.

“Based on the investigation, this appears to be an isolated incident with no threat to the public,” Suffolk police said in a statement Tuesday afternoon. “The investigation is continuing.”

The grisly incident began on Thursday, Feb 29th when students noticed a human arm in the woods by Southards Pond on their morning walk to school. The police were called and an extensive search by cadaver dogs found more body parts belonging to the victims in and around Southards.

On Tuesday, human remains were found in the woods opposite a house on Lakeway Drive in West Babylon, roughly three miles from where the woman’s remains were discovered in Southards Pond Park. Officials stated that the Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad and the Suffolk County Medical Examiner processed the scene.

Additionally, the police reported that additional remains were discovered in Bethpage State Park, which is about eight miles away. The New York State Police and the Suffolk medical examiner processed that scene.
