Good morning Babylon. Welcome to your Monday update and babbles here on Home in Babylon.
Why Did Nobody Tell Me It Was Shark Week?
Bit of a shark scare out on the beach this week, but it all turned out well.
Wednesday, two children playing in the waters off Fire Island were bitten by sharks. The attacks happened a few minutes apart, the first at the Sailors Haven beach, the second at Atlantique beach
The first victim, twelve year-old Lola Pollina, said she was in the water when she felt a quick pull, then saw the fin and a whirlpool.
A state official confirmed Thursday that one of the victims was indeed bitten by a shark after a tooth fragment pulled from his leg was analyzed. The age and size of the shark could not be determined.
Beaches were closed for a short time after the attack, but were re-opened shortly after.
Just a note, if anyone has a plan to go all Captain Quint and hunt the sharks down, you should know that sharks found off Long Island are classified as an overfished and prohibited species, so they must be immediately freed if caught.
Drones are being used to scan the waters for sharks, so no need to worry.
