Weekend Open Thread

TGIF and a joyous vernal equinox to everyone. Mother nature decided to play a little joke on us this morning, dialing in some snow flurries for the first day of spring. I wasn’t fooled. I know winter is over. Bring on baseball! Since it worked so well last time, I thought I’d try another open thread. So here it is. For those of you who aren’t familiar with blogging terminology, an open thread is a post where the blog readers are encouraged to leave comments on any topic they like. Feel free to leave a comment and ask a question, make an observation, tell us what you’re up to or just introduce yourself and say hi. I’m very interested in hearing fellow home shoppers, especially their impressions of any open houses that they’ve seen. Debra is planning on doing some open house visits this weekend, so I should have some reportage for you on that front next week. As for me, I’ll be at the lab both Saturday and Sunday, giving up the first weekend of spring advancing the cause of science I’m posting this “sticky”, which means that it will stay at the top of the page even if I post new stuff afterward. Chocolate Cake

From Newsday – Chocolate cakes: the best of Long Island JACQUELINE’S PATISSERIE, 199 E. Main St., Babylon, 631-893-5334, Perhaps the most beautiful cake I came across was the invention of Jacqueline Ingoglia. The little tower (4 inches wide, 5 inches tall, $15) was filled with chocolate-raspberry mousse, covered in ganache and then crowned with huge chocolate-buttercream roses with graceful bright-green leaves. I always think of of Torta Fina (nee Wilhelms) when I think of a Village bakery, but Jaqueline’s is a pretty special place. I should go for a visit and get myself a treat.
